GENERAL ENGLISH COURSES

Our General English Courses offer a programme of
study for students who wish to improve their level of confidence,
accuracy and fluency in Communicative English language skills.
Our General English morning classes offer a balanced
and comprehensive programme in speaking, listening, reading and writing
skills, pronunciation, vocabulary development and grammar.
For the Full time student or Part time/Afternoon
student, our afternoon classes focus on the major communicative
functions and language used in everyday spoken English and the
development of conversational English skills.
All our General English Courses allow a high degree
of flexibility to enable the programme to meet the needs of the students
and our small classes ensure that each student has the optimum
opportunity to improve their Communicative English skills.

BUSINESS ENGLISH COURSE
This course is specifically designed to meet the
needs of those who wish to develop effective English skills in the area
of business communication.
Students will learn English essential for working in
an English speaking Business environment. eg Writing Business Letters,
Producing and Evaluating Reports, Telephoning.
This course is offered on a 1- 1 basis and is
designed so that it can also be taken in conjunction with a part time
General English Course. |
WORKING HOLIDAY ENGLISH COURSEQueenstown is an
ideal location for students on a working holiday visa. As New Zealand's
premier holiday and tourist destination, Queenstown's many hotels,
restaurants and shops provide the opportunity for seasonal, short-term
work.
Our Working Holiday English course combines a
programme of General English study in the morning class and Working
Holiday English in the afternoon. In the afternoon class, students learn
English essential for finding a job and working in an English speaking
environment.
This course includes our free Working Holiday Support Programme.

EXAMINATION PREPARATION COURSESABC College of
English offers a range of English Examination preparation courses for
longer term students or students with examination goals. The following
international examination preparation courses are currently offered at
ABC College of English, Queenstown.
TOEFL ( Test of English as a Foreign Language )
A 10 week Preparation Course is offered for the TOEFL
examination. Students undertake the GE morning Class and the afternoon
class focuses on specific TOEFL examination skill development.

IELTS ( International English Language Testing
Systems )
This examination is currently used for entry to
higher education courses offered by New Zealand, Australian and UK
institutions. The IELTS examination is also used by the New Zealand
Immigration Service. ABC College of English offers a 10 weeks
preparation course for both the Academic and General English Modules of
the IELTS Examination.
Students undertake the GE morning class to improve
the essential Communicative English skills needed for this exam. In the
afternoon class the focus is on the IELTS examination skill development.

CAMBRIDGE Examinations
Preparation courses for the PET & FCE Cambridge exams
are for a period of 10 weeks. Students undertake the GE morning class
and the afternoon class focuses on specific examination skill
development.

PITMAN ESOL Examinations
ABC College is a Registered Pitman ESOL Examination
Centre and examinations are held every 2nd month at the college. The
examinations are offered at 5 levels and are open to students studying
on any of our courses.

ENGLISH FOR NZSBIA STAGE 1
SNOWBOARD INSTRUCTORS CERTIFICATE
This is an English course specifically designed to prepare candidates
for the Technical Snowboarding English component of the NZSIA (New
Zealand Snowboard Instructors Alliance) Stage I Examination. The course
focuses on the essential elements of English that candidates require for
the Stage I Snowboard Instructors Examination.

The morning programme is 3 hours of English study in class and the
afternoon involves students in a selected activity in which they can use

Course fees cover a comprehensive placement test, orientation programme,
the cost of English tuition, course materials, use of classroom
equipment, our guidance and counselling service, coffee/ tea and student
email access.
We provide a free working holiday support programme for students
enrolled at ABC College of English.
Course fees are calculated in complete weeks and any part of a week is
counted as a full week.
No compensation is given for national holidays when the college is
closed.
The cost of the Examination fees is not included in the course fees.
Examination fees for 2003 are: IELTS NZ$245, Cambridge FCE NZ$260 Pitman
ESOL NZ$90 TOEFL US$130.
Cost of living in Queenstown. On average, students coming to Queenstown
should budget between $100-$150 per week for entertainment, lunches and
bus fares etc. This amount is over and above the cost of their homestay
accommodation. |
